Who was the first athlete from Switzerland to become a world champion kickboxer?
It was Jean-Marc Tonus of Geneva.
He won the fullcontact world championship title -79Kg in Tampa, Florida. Tonus defeated German Dieter Herdel in the final fight of the second WAKO world championship tournament in 1979.
In 1987 Tonus also became a professional fullcontact kickboxing world champion by defeating American Bob Thurman by points in Geneva. This victory secured him the light-heavyweight world championship belt of the ISKA association.
