Holder of 4 world professional women’s kickboxing titles, France’s Christine Mourer, with an overall record of 62 wins (15 by KO) and 6 losses, has been selected as the first female martial arts champion to be featured in M.A.D.’s “Portrait of a Champion” series. Christine’s full time job is working at the Casino in her hometown of Perols in the south of France near Marseilles. So, don’t cause any trouble around the slot machines, as you may have an unpleasant encounter with France’s true “Femme Fatale”.
Christine began her martial art career at age 11 by studying judo. In 1990, at age 21, she embarked upon an illustrious career in full contact kickboxing. As an amateur, she won the French National Kickboxing Title in the women’s 54 kg class 8 years in a row. Then, she culminated her career as an amateur by winning the WAKO European Title in Germany in 1998 before deciding to turn pro. In order to prepare for a much tougher career in pro kickboxing, Christine traveled as far as Las Vegas and Hawaii just to hone her boxing skills. She was even successful as a boxer and won the Hawaiian title in 1998 and 1999. Then, she returned to France with only one goal in mind- to become the female professional kickboxing champion of the world. Christine’s determination and hard training finally paid off. In 1999, in Ninjevatororsk, Siberia, under extremely difficult circumstances (amongst other things, the temperature was below zero); Christine Mourer (then Christine de Ruggerio) defeated Russia’s tough Darya Schichkina to win the world’s most prestigious women’s title and become the WAKO World Professional Kickboxing Champion. In February 2000, Christine Mourer won the World Kickboxing Network (WKN) World Title in Ales, France by defeating Britain’s Sarah Hall. Since then, she has defended her WKN Title several times. Between world title fights, Christine keeps sharp by fighting as a member of the WAKO-FRANCE National Kickboxing Team. In January 2001, she defeated IKF US-Champion Suzanne Anderson of Minnesota in the finals of the WAKO French Open in Paris.
Christine is very active on the women’s pro kickboxing circuit. She’s probably the most active pro kickboxer in the world, men included. On September 22, 2002, she fought Canada’s Chantal Nadon for the FFKA World Title. Said France’s Femme Fatale, in her broken English, “In Canada, I lost by a point… but it’s easy to win when you’re in your own country… no?” Just two weeks later, she defended her WKN World Title by defeating the Chech Republic’s Renata Fusoka-Veseka in Switzerland. Then, already on November 16, in Dublin, Ireland, she will fight Nadon again. That’s three title fights in 3 different countries within 8 weeks. Sorry boys, but Christine is married.
